I’m thinking the 1950s. Too young to be drafted, still running off the wins of civil rights by the time you were 10.

Getting good jobs straight out of high school, more connected to your community. Retire in the other best decade of the early 2000s

Late 50s yeah...early 50s, not so much. The draft was from mid-60s through '73.
