I was on my way home from Detroit and my wife called me. "Babe, Michael Jackson died :to:." I'm like "Gtfoh :rudy:. It's just another celebrity death hoax." Her: "It's true. We're in the break room watching it right now. The whole hospital is quiet as hell right now :to:". After I hung up with her, I tried to get online with my phone, but I couldn't. That's when I knew it was real. I thought to myself : "This dude truly shut down the fukking internet :mjcry::wow:." Kim K, :umad:. When I finally got home and seen all the shyt on tv, I had that classic Florida Evans moment

Breh it was fukked up worldwide, 'cause while we all know how big dude was, how much of a "life experience" his concerts were with people fainting by the dozens each minute, the worldwide impact he had musically and otherwise, I honestly never expected his death to be anything more than cd's being bought on some posthumous nostalgia and tons and tons of tributes, but nah. shyt. GOT. REAL.

The internet shyt wasn't no joke 'cause it was a high spike in traffic world wide from what I can remember reading, but it's just the universal public mourning I was seeing all through Europe, impressive grafitti aside. I mean, whenever someone famous dies, people sorta put on a half assed show of making it look like they cared, but nah, this was serious business. Princess Diana death big, type serious.:wow:

Biggest or earliest?

The biggest would have to be 9/11 because of the 24/7 news cycle.
Then of course there was the OJ chase.
Michael Jackson's death is also in the top three.

The earliest big story I remember was the Berlin Wall coming down. Wasn't watching the news like that as a kid.

Man my kids were three and four and the time and even they were messed up about it, and they weren't even around to experience the MJ phenomenon. THAT'S the making of a true artist when their work reaches people generations down the road.

Haha I remember the Gary Condit/Chandra Levy shyt was all over the fukking networks me and my parents were watching that shyt every night then 9/11 happened and shyt became irrelevant. It's crazy I remember my mom couldn't stand the broad that was always arguing on Larry King she actually died in the 9/11 attacks

No one is saying the japan tsunami? Literally the most destructive and costliest disaster in recorded history, ever.

I'd imagine most of the posters here are gonna list major American news events seeing as the majority are from the us.

If this was a Japanese site it'll probably be mentioned by everyone alongside the Kobe earthquake.

Good thread topic. Here's a bump.
Casey Anthony, MJ's death, Obama elected. Probably more in the future.

To this day I don't know how Casey got off...

Just wondering when the Queen's gonna kick it

In all honesty
You are all wrong
From 911 to everything else listed it didn’t change y’all lives.

Covid did though
You are living your biggest event right now
And it did change your life.
WFH, lockdown, maybe you gained weight, less sex if single, and the eventual return to work

Dallas, Texas but living in Houston, Texas
The earliest I can remember was the first Iraq War but I was a child and didn't really grasp the magnifications of it. I would probably say the Los Angeles riots right after the Rodney King verdict.

Man my childhood was filled with so many historical events. The first Iraq War, LA Riots, the first world trade center bombing, Waco, OJ trial, Million Man March, Columbine, Clinton impeachment, 2Pac and Biggies deaths, and Princess Diana's death.
