Some of y'all are either cacs who live in a bubble, seeing things from a rose-tinted lens, or just Black people not in tune with reality...

America has never had a good reputation, to begin with, ever since the 70s after the Civil Rights Bill passage, the United States (cacs in particular) has been fighting hard to rebuild or fabricate an image of being for justice, liberty, freedom, peace, etc.

For example, the Soviet Union once called out the US for being phony and hypocritical, “And you are lynching Negroes” which was to point out how America's self-righteousness and morals are skewed yet have the nerve to criticize other countries, as it relates to human rights.

This so-called good or righteous reputation that OP and others are talking about has always been a farce, teetering in the middle, basically a gimmick to convince the rest of the world that America stands for all the supposed good things.

As Malcolm said himself; “chickens coming home to roost”.

I don't think OP means a good reputation as in being like some kind of saint who does no wrong.

But moreso being a trusted stable partner and ally to a good majority of the world. That is what has been destroyed in the last three months

Some of that respect is gone for good; what we would need is a change in some of our electoral processes to make it harder for a demagogue to ride a populist wave (ranked choice voting, ending the first past the post primary system). We would need to address the excessive amount of power given to the executive branch; this started with Bush and continued with Obama.

Trump can get away with a lot because he controls the GOP's voting base and can get legislators primaried out of their positions. They need to find a way to make it harder for a populist president to pull this off. They also need to constitutional amendments but I don't know that congress will ever have the balls to do it.

Lastly, the elephant in the room is that at least 30%-40% of the American electorate is dumb AF and regressive and will remain that way for the foreseeable future. They will always affect future elections and undo the progress made by smart presidents. Personally I think the country ought to split but that is just a pipe dream.
