What will it take for the NBA to overtake the NFL as the most popular sport in the USA?

Hard cap, a smaller salary cap and no max contracts, every team has to have a superstar, even if they are stuck with trash, they can get picks and get good in 7 years, that is generally the time a drafted superstar is held hostage in a shytty organization.

They also gotta find a way to not allow players signing for less than 4 years unless they are over a certain age like 33~34. It should be like drafted players = 5 years just like it's now, and the rest, until 33, only 4 years contracts, 34 = 3 years, 35 = 2 years, 36+ = 1 year, it would prevent this KD bs.

Player option should be only for drafted players and get rid of team options.

But realistically, basketball is not an "american product", so it will probably never be bigger.

Philly bouls, Trust the Process
I think it can happen naturally if they can fix players resting. The sport of football itself is falling apart. People will stop letting their kids play football. I think it will suffer a similar fate to boxing. The NBA dominates the internet it seems to me in terms of discussion, youtube, social media, etc. and NBA players are far bigger stars than NFL players with 1/10th the off court problems. In the era of social media this is a big leg up for the NBA. Look at the amount of views and hype and how everyone talks about high school ballislife mixtapes, that shyt's crazy.

The NBA is more progressive and I think has superior longevity. Who knows how long it'll take, but I see the NFL imploding eventually.

Basically, the NBA will continue to grow at a rapid rate and the NFL will eventually kill itself I think. It won't be a normal takeover.

A fundamental shift in American culture, and an increase in CAC stars.

Even when Bird was there as popular as he was and the nba was it was still behind the NFL and MLB

With gambling/fantasy being so big I'd say there is almost zero chance anything catches up to the NFL aside from players dying on the field

The NFL has dared the public too stop watching with a horrible on field product, sociopathic commissioner, out of control players, but because of gambling people put up with it.

I believe so, due to the fact that the sport is more global and has reach in places like Africa, China, Europe, South America...as the US undergoes more demographic change that can only help the NBA's popularity.

Whereas the NFL is really only hugely popular in the US.
