I can't see it happening in the NBA or MLB, but definitely in the NFL where contracts are t guaranteed.

In fact, when Tom Brady took that pay cut earlier this year that was among the first thoughts that came to my mind.

That wasn't the same thing.

That was a team giving a player a promise of a larger contract in the future. I'm talking about a team with no intention of giving a player a subsequently larger contract.
