When kids and even older folks physically see only certain detrimental avenues to getting success, clout, etc., they will follow them. If more kids knew that you can amass wealth by staying in school and getting certain degrees, or trades, and more importantly, can see role models like them doing the same, they follow that instead.
At this point, it's institutional and cultural. Large segments of the community aren't interested in real education from a young age, and it shows. You have 30, 40 year olds who never progress past the teenage stage because they literally have never personally seen, heard, or spoken to any quantity of black professionals.
