Most people that "take climate change seriously" don't take climate change seriously.
Ask yourself, do you:
Use air conditioning? Use heat in the winter?
Take a hot shower every day?
Eat shyt that doesn't grow locally? (somewhat ironic that avocados are the trendy food of "progressives")
Drive a car often?
Patronize restaurants with that run 20 big screen televisions at once?
Hop on a plane and travel the world often?
etc...

Most people that take climate change seriously are only willing to go as far as to bytch about and mock republicans. Maybe post about it obsessively on the internet...

It would literally take their house to go under water. Even then, they'd probably have some excuse ready. I live in a beach town and there's plenty of people here who don't believe in climate change and aren't worried about shores getting washed away.

What's your point, Bro?

Data is from 2007 as well

:francis:
You think data from 2016 would be much different? I'd take the time to find it if I wasn't sure you'd just respond with a stupid smiley.

My point is Americans talk a good game, but aren't willing to actually be the change they want.
Also, consider that data and consider the comparative populations of each nation.

Q) What would it take to get people to take climate change seriously?

A) Longer lifespans.

As a single person without any interest in raising children, I simply don't care what happens when I'm gone.
The planet is currently ruled by cacs.

So if it catches fire and burns up, so be it.
Good.

I'm not even apathetic. I am actually incentivized to root against the planet, do to its abhorent leadership.

The answer is incentive and positive reinforcement.

:manny:

Ppl have shown to want to do good things, but it's hard to do good things when all the "good things" cost more or is harder to do than the alternative.

Many studies have proven this.

For example, when trash cans are plentiful in a city or a park ppl, will typically carry their garbage a little longer to dump it. If not they will just toss it anywhere.

If you see recycling bins in a food court ppl are more likely to recycle their recyclables rather than just dump it in the trash.

When their are financial incentives to use your electricity or water at certain times of the day ppl will hold off and wait....to save money.

Lots of ppl would love to have solar panels, electric cars, etc. But that shyt is just too expensive or inconvenient.

It's also about reframing the message. It needs to be personal, and it needs to apply to them right now. When they are told that in 1000 years the temperature will rise 3 degrees and ny will be Atlantis and shyt....no one cares, because no one will be around. There is no emotional attachment to it.

The Wrong Side of the Tracks
The extinction of the human race.

I'm not joking, either. No one really takes it seriously because it's so mind-bogglingly apocalyptical (sp) it doesn't even make sense.

People pay lip-service to actually caring about it and whatnot, but that's like caring about a house fire: No one really does until their house is engulfed in flames.

All we see right now is a little smoke. Nothing serious.
