I make 'em listen to podcasts but if I play music, it's mostly what I'd play since they're teenagers. My daughter likes rap but prefers pop music and my son listens to mostly NBA Youngboy and Chicago drill.

My daughter not really built.
to listen to rap at all.
So I do not listen.
to much rap around her at all.

Plus there is no way.
to establish the culture and a substantial gateway.
for her to comprehend what hiphop is. Let alone rap is.

She is twenty now.
I wish there was some way.
to get her to like music like that.

Yet culturally....I do not see a way.

to have parental sway. While enjoying listening to rap with her around.
I was able to pass along video games.
to her rather well though.

To get a child to be a bboy or bgirl. It has to be culturally in them.
to seek out and understand the mores and norms. Which have no gateway.
similar to what we had.

PBS did a fine job with raising us.

That pbs is not the same high quality urban intellectual learning experience tool.
it used to be at all.

so I doubt anyone young.
has real access to the cultural mores and norms or hiphop. Similar to our gateway.

rap is to centralized. In being a prison industrial economy style gateway. Firmly entrenched and rooted in ruthless records runs the world. To get the average kid.
to committ to culturally now.

It is what it is.

My youngest daughter like the Beastie Boys :russ: I think one of their songs came on an 80s playlist once. Usually I let them play what they want, Taylor Swift and all that kind of crap but If I choose its whatever I'm listening to at the time new albums, classics, random playlists whatever.

Mostly what I listen to. She’s still super young, but older Jazz, slower rap, older soul/neo soul, tribe called quest, Kast, Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monaé, D’Angelo, Erykah, Maxwell, EWF, Ahmad Jamal, Coltrane, Elvin Jones, Lee Morgan, Horace Silver, Sade, Ramsey Lewis.

The hardest thing she’s listened to, when I was driving, was when I started the car and Duke Duece’s “Memphis Massacre” song came on. I was too crunk to stop it. She was half sleep anyways.

:manny:
Honestly she’s way too young to care.

My daughter is 8 and absolutely loves 3-6 Mafia and Migos. Loves the energy and catchy choruses and chants. She is deeply familiar with both discographies.
She also loves Eazy-E cuz she thinks he sounds like a kid.
