Gen Z: "owning a computer was only a big thing until 2000 because of Apple"

Apple was founded in 1976
Microsoft was founded in 1975

Personal computers are now a very common item in many houses yet in 1955, there were only 250 computers in use throughout the world. In 1980, more than one million personal computers had been sold and by the mid-1980’s, this figure had risen to 30 million. How did this come about?

The Personal Computer - History Learning Site

IBM launched its own personal computer in 1981. Eventually 85% of all personal computers were to be IBM compatible. Microsoft won the contract to write the operating system for the IBM personal computer. Microsoft called its new operating system MS-DOS. Each copy earned the company $10. During the 1980’s, MS-DOS was installed in over 30 million personal computers.

Honestly....anybody aged 32,33 and below is probably a millennial. That's when you begin to see a difference in the behavior / mentalities for what its worth i think.

So like 1985

I think this sounds about right...imo 2001 9/11 might be the cut off. If you weren't atleast 18 in 2001...chances are your psychology and prospective about the future is just different.

When I think about any time before September 10, 2001--I always thought of things as being pretty much the same as any other year before it on a psychological scale...after 9/11...everything changed...sort of like Judgement Day in T2. The frame of reference is there for some of us...for those who became adults after that year...it's just very different.

Anything after my birth year.
I grew up Gen Y and didn't hear about Millenials extending all the way through the early 80s until the 2010s.
I have more in common with people born in the mid to late 70s than any 90s baby. Their generational milestones and stereotypes don't apply.
If you dont remember the first Gulf War, Mandela being freed, Jesse running for president, the Cold War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the dot com bubble, those huge QUBE cable remotes with all the buttons up and down the sides, adults freakin out over the rise of grunge and gangsta rap and getting those advisory stickers slapped on albums so you needed I.D. or an adult to buy music, heroin chic, the Oklahoma City Bombing, the Unabomber, Pac and Biggie pre mortem, the inescapable fukkery of the OJ show, Dan vs Dave, 'why can't we all just get along', installing Ethernet cards, msdos, withdrawing denominations smaller than $20 from the atm, 5 1/4 and 8 inch floppy disks, The Box, the school shooter era, the trench coat mafia, Clinton on Arsenio, the Centennial Olympic Park bombing...

we don't share a generation
