What year was it when you actually started to like/appreciate John Cena?

I started to like Cena during his match with Angle at No Mercy 2003. It helped that he fried a fan in an impromptu freestyle that afternoon.

As far as appreciation? Man... it might be following Brock squashing him at Summerslam, that and the U.S. Open Challenge.

When he stopped being a full timer.

I respected him but never liked him because he was in a spot I felt wrestlers I liked more should be in.

I'm appreciating him now more than ever, especially with this heel turn.

I had a little flash of actually enjoying him around the Bray match during COVID which was completely fukking amazing from build to finish, but it's always pretty much been "Yep, that's a guy who's really good at his job, but I'm not his target audience" for me.

Similar way I felt about yellow/red Hogan in the 80s/90s tbh. I could see it was working for all the American kids, but from 3,000 miles away it wasn't moving me like Macho or Warrior did.

I started watching wrestling in 2008. I liked him from the beginning and it was between him and The Undertaker for my favorite wrestler. I remember being :mjcry: when Jericho and Legacy beat him down right after he came back from neck surgery and won the WHC.

Even during his "bologna, fudge, and mustard" days, I was a big fan and never stopped being one. The way he was able to transition his character in the mid/late 2010s while still keeping his core personality was :wow: and it made me appreciate him even more. His matches and feuds always felt important, and he could sell you on what he was doing every time he cut a promo.
