Feels like this is a good time to open this up for discussion.........What's his legacy, how will you remember him? Where does he rank in the pantheon of all time greats?

In the discussion for GOAT level Mexican boxers. Like Andre Ward pointed out last night, Mexicans aren’t as hard on their boxers after a loss.
The problem is Canelo isn’t on the best terms with a lot of the Mexican greats because Canelo hasn’t been a fan of them being a bit critical of him over the years.

Canelo is a great no doubt…but he’s no GOAT category fighter and he was completely outclassed in his losses. Plus he truly lost the first 2 GGG fights.

Canelo was a great fighter, but I think his resume isn't quite as shiny as you'd want if you're going to compare him to other all time greats.

What's his signature win?
Gennady Golovkin?
Daniel Jacobs?
Sergey Kovalev?

Those were really good fighters but I don't know that those fights make a lasting mark in boxing history.

He loses to Mayweather.
He loses to Crawford.

Yeah he beats an old Miguel Cotto, an old Shane Mosley, an undersized Amir Khan.

I just think he's been the only great Mexican fighter in an era where Mexican fighters generally have not been as good as they were in the 1990s and early 2000s. And being the premier Mexican guy is a major part of his appeal/legacy/brand.

All time great fighter and legend. He unfortunately lost to 3 legendary fighters in Floyd, Terence and Dmitry. He had questionable decisions in the early part of his career that followed him for quite sometime. I think his run at 168 was his crowning achievement. I wonder how he would be looked at if he stayed at 168 instead of going up to 175.

He took too long to fight David Benavidez and that will tarnish his legacy more than The 3 losses and 2 near losses will.

Good summation, he went to 175 to avoid Benavidez, then went straight back when he got stripped for coke. Literally the next day.

I shyt on Alvarez a lot, but his run of wins at 168 was exceptional (Jacobs, Saunders, Plant, Smith etc), as well as his run from 154-160. 160 was marred by bullshyt draws/wins against GGG.

That being said, he and his team were some of the shrewdest match makers the game has ever seen. I'd argue he's a great talent that looked a lot greater because he and Reynoso knew his limitations. His last good win was Plant if we are being honest.

Canelo's change after the Mayweather lost was very good....upwards...his defensive ability increased tenfold. That was definitely respectable. He didn't beat any elite fighters in their prime and openly ducked a peer for years now. That's it.
