Chicago gumbo is the worst. Honestly all their soul food and bbq us pretty bad considering all the Black living here with Mississippi roots.

I know an older NO couple that own a bakery in South Loop. Everytime I stop in we laugh at all the terrible mac n chesses around town. The man told me he even saw gumbo with a tomato base like jambalaya at a so-called cajun restaurant (thats another topic in itself) here lol. I laughed so hard...

GUMBO!
U can find a decent Philly anywhere.....Mexicans cook them in Philly, Mexicans cook them in Chicago. I had one the other week at Philly's Best. :ld: Now good GUMBO? :whew: First of all, the seafood is regional and tastes different in different parts of the country.

I’ve had some pretty good simulations of Philly Cheesesteaks over the years. One place is a group of Philly cats who moved to Florida. They ship in bread from philly once a week.

ANother spot is is surprisingly a seafood spot. Their Philly is amazingly spot on :dwillhuh:

I have rarely had good authentic gumbo outside of Louisiana. I think the problem is that to different regions gumbo means different things

Gumbo. I'm in Philly and you can get a respectable cheesesteak at almost any corner store (except Pat's and Geno's ironically), but it takes real dedication to stir a pot of roux for an hour or so... Damn, now I'm wanting some Gumbo....

I went to the country areas outside of NO last year, I really wish I stopped somewhere and got gumbo. I did have it in NO and I liked it a lot, but I'm not sure how good that place is considered to be

I vote for gumbo too, it seems way more complex and harder to replicate than a cheesesteak

Man I haven't eaten, that picture looks like porn. Beautiful.

I've never had gumbo in my life that I can recall.

I used to watch my my ex's mom slave all day over the stove makin gumbo. I tried to pick up what I could but that roux in itself is something you can't just do.
You can't tell me there's anything in a Philly cheese that can't be easily replicated the same way :hubie:
