Malik Monk is no matter what worth a top 7 pick in the draft..Sometimes you need a dude who can score the ball and even though he's small he's not freakishly short to play SG/Pg...I think when the combine comes around he may grade out as closer to 6'4...If in the 76ers, Heat, Mavs, GMs I will have to take a long hard (nh) look at him..
The question is really this are we sure that he can't learn how to be a PG or a Lead Guard in the NBA...With his shooting and ability to catch and shoot he's the perfect fit for some teams especially teams with a Point Forward or a Playmaking SG.
I believe on the right team and in the right situation he can be a PG or Lead guard...More so of a Lead guard.
I think he has enough vision to eventually play PG, provided there is other good playmakers on team.
I do worry his handle is a little lose, which is one of the reasons he doesn't get to the bucket as much as I'd like.
Also his defensive effort isn't always great
I still love this guy though, If you look at my draft thread I've been a huge fan of his for a while and have been hyping him up since he was a sophomore in HS so I wish him the best.
The difference between him and Lou Will or Crawford is the athletic ability. When he develops a little, he should be at least top 10 in the league in transition scoring, he's as good as it gets in that regard. That's why I made the LaVine comparison, Zach is currently 6th in the league in fast break points. Monk is more skilled at same age but also smaller and not quite as explosive.
Transition points are very important btw, as they are highly efficient and usually what separates the top scorers from just average ones is that feel to get out in early offense and get buckets consistently.
Russell Westbrook or John Wall or even LeBron are below average efficiency in half court, Lou Williams is more effective scoring the ball than them in half court situations but what separates them is their ability to be one man fast breaks. Monk is a different player than those 3 but he has some of that ability
