This, Ted was a fan and bought himself a wrestling company and told Vince to suck his dikk cause he was taking over the business. Today you need a rich dude like Mark Cuban or someone that is a big of a fan to rival Vince these days.

Ted Turner actually loved wresting

Loved is a little strong. He had an interest in it and had the infrastructure(TV, money) to compete with Vince. He basically bought the biggest territory still standing (crockett) and willed it to a success(it was almost 7 years before they turned profit) And lets not forget that Turner was extremely cheap in regards to WCW too. It was bischoff who told Ted if he wanted to compete he needed to open his wallet and stop bullshytting like years past when they use to cut the budget with each new turner exec. (Remember how Jake got fukked by Watts when he came in? He basically forced McMahon to release him after WM8 by threating not to go out and job to Taker. He went to WCW who had given him a 7 figure deal. Watts was brought in to cut the budget and basically voided Jake contract and offer him 200k. Jake basically had to accept that since he burned Vince) But yea Ted was just a businessman who had in interest in wrestling and wanted to compete. Vince loves wrestling and it obviously shows. And there is basically no chance of a ted turner type getting into the business now. The business is down so its very risky. Plus WWE is now an institution. They are so far up its impossible to catch them

How? What hot prospects are out there? What TV is going to accept them? Wrestling is not a hot industry

It would take an extremely knowledgeable group of wrestling minds to make a viable company.

The minds are out there but most of them are old heads who would still be stuck in the 80s mentally.

It would take a completely selfless effort to make it happen, with nobody being in it for a quick buck.

Basically it'd have to be more well ran ecw. Gotta build your own stars completely.

I don't believe it is impossible to catch up at all. if an upstart promotion got their hands on the right talent and the right names, the type that might help lend credibility to the product... then anything is possible. all wcw had to do was sign hogan and the rest was history.

it's a huge hypothetical but for the sake of discussion lets assume another company took foot 2-3 years from now and had a big stack of chips to play with. let's say they were able to miraculously sign CM Punk... maybe Brock Lesnar once his contract with the E was up... maybe they catch a few other dissatisfied members of the E on the rebound... Austin lends his name to it...a few other old timers lend their name to it... there's no telling what would happen after that.

I was gonna say it's impossible because the conditions that birthed WCW don't exist anymore...the remnants of the territory system are basically all snuffed out and wwe has been even way more of a monopoly now then they ever were...but then it dawned on me, all it would really take is a more well, forward thinking, cooler and edgier version of TNA...Vince 'nem have pushed the mythology of the Monday Night War era so much, even with the revisionist bent put on shyt, that the current fanbase would prolly be really receptive to legit competitive product if it actually existed on a major scale

There is enough wrestling for me in ROH, Lucha Underground & New Japan to keep me thoroughly entertained and it'd be easy to put an exciting roster together of guys not on WWE's payroll. The one thing a real opposition has to have is production values. Vince has always had the edge with that. Rival him on that and his product can be beat in other areas. In-ring work, realism, storylines. These are areas Vince can be whipped at.

I think it could be done it would take a billionaire with alot of patience if he could pay some expiring guys contracts to sit at home for a year or sowhile building a roster and if he owned a television network he could do it.
