I feel like ADHD and OCD are the two mental disorders everyone diagnoses themselves with but don't really get what they are and how serious your situation should be before you take meds. I was prescribed psych meds for Bipolar Disorder, but they don't effect me physically or emotionally in an adverse way, so I decide to take them still. It's different for everyone. Sometimes I play doctor, and think I really have a Depression/ADHD combo and complicate things, but for me, things work out great when I:
1) make a schedule which includes all aspects/areas of my life, follow it relatively closely
2) sleep 7-8 hours regularly, try to never go below 6 hours.
3) Exercise moderately
4) Write out goals with possible plans.
5) Remain teachable, open-minded, and willing.
And I feel relatively happy, serene, and focused the majority of the time. I still get bright idea sometimes and veer off course; sometimes get too hyper. But the thing about school and work is that there just not interesting some days. Other times u just don't know what you really want to do with life. U may be spiritually bankrupt and not have a sense of purpose, or you may feel good in that area, but still haven't found your passion.
Drugs, nicotine, caffeine, help in the short term, but can make any situation worse.
