1 chip being Rondo. I think this just proves it's hard to win with the point guard being the best player on the team rather than is he pass first or shoot first. What success has a pass-first PG had in the last 15 years?![]()

The Celtics would have won a championship with pretty much any starting PG in the league during that season. He was like their 4th/5th best player.1 chip being Rondo. I agree there wasn't trying to say he was the best player on the team. I'm just trying to say you can't build around your point guard whether he is pass or shoot first, so I don't get why people argue which one is more essential to a chip when in reality, the point guard position hasn't been the most important position on the floor for the past 20 years. The Celtics would have won a championship with pretty much any starting PG in the league during that season. What success has a pass-first PG had in the last 15 years, besides appeasing everybody's opinion that they play the game the 'right' way?![]()

Well most teams point guards are better scorers than the shooting guards these days.. And the teams style of play has alot to do with assist totals too.
history says otherwise
It's not as simple as that, especially since a large amount of PGs are among the best scorers in the league. By general rule you'll always have more success with a scoring PG as your #1/#2 option than you will have with a pass first PG, in this current climate.I agree there wasn't trying to say he was the best player on the team. What exactly are you trying to say here?i dont think its even about being a pass-first pg...its more about being WILLING to pass...tony parker can score and does score a lot...but has anybody ever complained about him not passing and running the offense...in the last 15 yrs i think he has been the most successful pg (winning-wise) in the nba....
we gotta bunch of iverson clones now....it is what it is![]()
In this climate, yes you will have more success with a shoot first PG, but a bigman that can at least play D and grab + plus an all around wing player will always be the best thing for championship caliber team. It's not as simple as that, especially since a large amount of PGs are among the best scorers in the league. According to the coli these are the only pg's that can you win withhistory says otherwise
