It's all gassed up talk that people with a little bit of knowledge use to fool people who aren't in the know. I hear people all the time at work and on the street offering to sell you a jail broken or hacked fire stick with "all the channels, I can even get you porn on there for free. Watch all the movies that are in the theatre and it works just like Netflix for only $70 - $80" The worst ones are the ones that say they know a guy that knows a guy that can hook you up with one for the low. These people really out here fooling people left and right. When I first heard about it all it took me was about 20 minutes of googles to know everything I needed to know about it. I looked around for the easiest tutorials and did it myself. Shoot, I even picked up a google nexus player back when it was on sale at target for $25. That joint is actually the best device to use for kodi since it has the google play store out of the box and you just log in and download kodi. That's itI came in to say this, pretty much. Try Amber. I've been using "Kodi" since the original Xbox. I've tried many skins. Amber is one of my favorites. Whenever I put it on a Firestick for someone, if they were use to the default skin, when they see Amber they usually flip out like "Yooooo you hooked my shyt UP!!!". LMAO.I'm using that black nova on mine, but I prefer something better. What's the best theme for the stick?
I only use Specto and Phoenix on mine right now
You kinda sound like me. I've been using XBMC since it's inception, and when all of a sudden one day my uncle tells me about one of my cousins and how he has some device where he can "watch everything". I'm thinking to myself "How have I not heard about this.....". So I call him up and ask him and he tells me he bought a Firestick from someone and it's got everything on it. Now me being familiar with XBMC and Kodi, I know that he must be using addons and that the add ons come and go. Sometimes they work and then one day you get on there and that shyt might be disabled altogether. Or you go to watch "Live TV" and the channels only work half the time. So I ask him how long he's had it. He tells me for about 6 months. I then ask if everything still works and he swears it does, but I'm skeptical. Anyway, I take my Firestick and decide to give it a go. A quick Google search and I had all the info I needed as well as how to "hack" a Firestick. I proceeded to do so and it was cool, but I decided to stick with my HTPC setup. But for people who aren't as advanced or as tech savvy as some of us are, they really enjoy it and I will admit it has made family time a blast when over the relative's house. It's all gassed up talk that people with a little bit of knowledge use to fool people who aren't in the know. I honestly don't even really mess with it anymore. The quality and availability is always spotty. HBO GO, Netflix, and Hulu work flawlessly with high quality 99% of the time. You kinda sound like me. Speaking of live tv.....anyone know of any IPTV setups or addons that ALWAYS work? I don't keep up to date with all the new addons so something could be out there and I could be missing out on it.
They are overexaggerated, but not completely exaggerated. My people use them religiously. Before I started giving them to kinfolks, I'd only heard about people using them. Who knows what's true in that regard? But I've actually been able to see the frequent usage from uncles, aunts, cousins, and even my mom. It's a daily part of their life now and I turned off the 4k Netflix account that we were sharing about 4 months ago. They stopped using it. I will say quality wise Netflix is better, no doubt, but the Firestick definitely has it's value. It's just you have "hustlers" out there going crazy with it.I honestly don't even really mess with it anymore. The quality and availability is always spotty. $20 a month isn't breaking the bank for me.
I have kodi on my nexus player collecting dust. The last movie I even cared to watch on it was Civil War.
It's cool some people like it and get decent use out of it, but the tales I hear all the time of a Netflix type experience with Kodi are completely exaggerated.
No doubt people are getting good use out of it. I'm just speaking from a video/audio quality, and service standpoint. They are overexaggerated, but not completely exaggerated.
