Theres no bright line test. It’s a combination of circumstance and intention.

An excuse is typically reserved for outcomes that are undesired while a reason is the application of a narrative to an outcome which can be subjective or objective depending on the pov

If you can't deny it, justify it :hula:

Thats what I’m trying to tell these dudes. It’s all just semantics. Excuses are reasons, but reasons are not excuses.

If your car broke down and you missed a meeting, that could be considered a reason and not an excuse because it was out of your control. But what if they know you been bullshytting on your car maintenance and ignoring your check engine light? Then people may say your car breaking down was an excuse for missing the meeting. But what if it just started happening a week ago as opposed to three months ago? Excuses and reasons more similar than different

Missing a meeting due to a car breaking down is an excuse. If you know your car is in bad shape, you should have found other means of getting to work, at least for that particular day.

This is with all things known though. In reality, no one will disclose that if they wise. So in theory you can debate the shyt, but in reality people are bending the definitions, lying, manipulating, or withholding information to get the benefit of “not making excuses” But it’s really all just excuses at the end of the day cause analyzing shyt in hindsight gonna almost always show you ways you could have prepared for unplanned circumstances. Everyone’s definition of reasonable is different.

Excuse - Justification for why something didn't happen the way it was assumed or intended to

Reason - The convincing or prevailing thought that precludes a conclusion

I could tell you the reason why that lazy farmer made that excuse that he didnt have enough gas as to why he didnt complete his deliveries.

Because hes lazy. His excuse didnt hold weight as there were gas cans filled with fuel in the polebarn.

His reasoning justified his excuse to not finish his job.

But theres no excuse for his reasoning. Because his prevailing thought was not conducive to the task set for him, nor was it true that there was no fuel.

An excuse deviates from the set norm or expected path.

Reasoning is the basis or foundation that creates an excuse to not do something OR taking action to do something.

I'm reading this over and I apologize in advance for the confusion lmao.

Whats your thoughts???
What the person does after.

If you quit after or don’t do anything, then the shyt is just an excuse. If you fail at something but then keep trying again and get it right, then it was a reason why you failed the fist time.
