The dude with the worst foul draws was probably Hardens 3 point fouls.

Cause he would step back and shoot outside of the the 3 line. But then somehow he landed inside like 4 feet inside :mjlol:
So basically he’s the one tryna kick people but gets to shoot 3

D'whistle was outchea getting calls like old cheese eyes in his prime except that :mjlit: earned it by taking beatings from the Pistons for almost a Decade. So it's a sort of new tradition of the NBA to pick the perimeter players that get the calls. In my bball experience some players build a rapport with refs and get some preferential treatment but also some of the NBA calls in conference and NBA finals look blatant like for example Sacramento vs Lakers.

People started calling D Wade D Whistle cause of that 2006 finals. It was just seeming like you just couldn’t touch him in anyway or the refs was gonna call a foul. But I don’t think people were necessarily complaining about him hunting for the fouls like they are with SGA.

The Mavs were one of the worst teams in the league at defending 2 guards that season. They literally had no shot at stopping his 1st step.

100%.

I'm Mavs fan and saw that shyt up close. Before the Finals, Wade had a rep as a slasher that would sacrifice his body going back to when he was at Marquette. No one really looked at him as a foul merchant until the '06 Finals.

Stern saw that Dallas was clearly the better team and he didn't want a sweep. DWade was a family man from Chicago with Pat Riley as coach and a coastal squad in Miami. They started giving him a more favorable whistle late in Game 3 and then shyt got out of hand. I think Stern wanted it to go 6 games at least but Dallas completely unraveled while Miami got hot with all the vets on that team.

They changed up how they were calling fouls mid-series and the Mavs never adjusted. They played in a regular season game next year in Dallas and I remember the Mavs blowing them off the floor. It confirmed in my head that Dallas was far an away the superior team all things being equal.

Mavs should have had some point of attack defenders instead of relying on Josh "cancels out DWade" Howard

That was the year Kobe gave them 62 in 3 quarters. fukk the Mavs and anybody who care about 'em.
You still hating after white boy with the blond hair took your lunch in 2011 when it was supposed to be arguably the best team of all time. The NBA hadn't seen start power like that all in one team.

The fact is Wade doesn't get too much flack for foul baiting because of his aggressive style of play. It's like making fun of Westbrook or Bron for getting calls but those guys try to go through you. The issue with Wade especially in 06 for brehs who remember is that he would drive and then flail or flop. People had issues with that because it was being argued that Wade was initiating the contact by driving into the defender. Thats when you started to see the whole principal of verticality start to take shape and the refs stopped calling fouls as long as the big went straight up with both hands in the air. Then came James Harden who again would purposely hold the ball way out side with his hands stretched and go under your arm. Again he initiated contact first.

The thing with SGA is that he doesn't have the speed, size or aggression to drive into defenders. What SGA does so good is by playing at pace and baiting defenders because he has 4 counter moves and fakes on each one until he gets you to reach or touch his arm. SGA is a finesse player with arguably the best footwork of all time. What he gets away with is the Jordan push off at times. Again officials aren't perfect here. Despite the low free throws and refs swallowing their whistle SGA is still putting up 30+ pts each game. His mid range and footwork is deadly.

Dwyane Wade got a lot of heat for 06

The only difference is people respect Wade's raw athleticism. Wade doesnt have to elbow guys to create separation.

And as someone else said, the 06 calls were ghost phantom fouls. Not so much DWade foul baiting (which he did a lot of a few years later)

i remember d wade having defenders crash into him because they were going for his pump fakes.

but that wasn't his entire game though, he still had crazy highlights and was fun to watch, it wasn't just threes and free throws the whole night.

WTF? Shai has one of pretties mid-range games in the league and is nowhere near all threes and FTs.

But as far as the original topic, the difference is the method that fouls are called. Damn near all the greats got a generous whistle. But there's a difference between getting a good whistle versus hunting for a whistle.

Hunting for a whistle is the shyt players like Luka, Shai, Harden, and at times Jokic do where they'll reach up while driving and grab a defender's arm and then flail their body like they're getting held. Or just completely jump into the defender sideways making no attempt to score. Or the obvious flops where if they feel the slightest contact they'll do the neck snap back and start flailing their body.

A lot of other greats more than anything were trying to put the ball into the hole first and foremost.
