This Orton/Wyatt story has been a constant since August. It really is one of the longest running storylines in wrestling history. A complete story like this for so long hasn’t gone down since the 80’s.

I’ve struggled to care about it that much because the nature of the partnership just wasn’t plausible (Orton, one of the faces of the company for over a decade, is really going to be pushed under the umbrella of a still unproven, and largely untrusted person?), but still props to them for going for it and sticking by their guns. We beg for long-term booking all the time, and they actually went for it. If it comes to a finite end at WM, we’ll have just seen an eight month storyline play out.
I also think that it was just a 'ok so whens it gonna happen'

to eventually 'he betrays him and challenges at mania'

I'd say the Undertaker/ Paul Bearer feud which led to Kane's Debut. One thing that gets overlooked is how slowly they teased Kane's debut through out the spring &summer.
