game of thrones is the best right now, but its content isn't new to me having read the books, the graphic novels and so on.
american horror story is real good but it will never be top rated. too niche and bizarre.
if i remember correctly, the walking dead has more viewers than breaking bad and dexter. ain't my favorite at all though.

Like others have said Game of Thrones is the king right now.
after that it's a toss up between Mad Men and Boardwalk empire (neither of which I've watch though I plan on watching Boardwalk).
I think a lot people are sleeping on Hannibal though...

That show isn't far off conclusion. It isn't going to pick up this late in its run. Underrated program though.

I'm with you for the most part. They have 2 seasons until they call it quits, if I'm not mistaken. I'm just not following you on the last part... What do you mean by "it isn't going to pick up this late in its run'?
You takling about the pace of the show? To me it does, what it does... it's much more subtle and it doesn't have very many 'explosive" moments.. but that's part of what makes it great.. the writers don't try to force in those into the show.... The finale for the last season is a perfect example of that.
