I was thinking about going this route also but would I have to go back to school for a Computer Sciences degree and then get the certs or could I just get the certs and crank that shyt. I made a IT thread in HL but that shyt got out of control.
If you're going to be a consultant, the path is help desk, certs, move up in your career. If you're going to be a business owner and start your own firm, the path is network, hustle, grow your business.
IMO, school is a waste of fukking time. If I could do it over again, I woulda skipped college, and went straight for my certs. Having the right experience is more important than a IT/CS degree.
Go on monster.com, look up those 6 figure jobs, and see what skills are in demand. That's what I did. Then I taught myself that shyt at home, waited until I had about 2-3 years of experience under my belt, then went to doing contract/consulting work.
If you bust your ass, focus, and get your certs, you can hit 200k in about 10 years. I've gotten emails about jobs paying that much. Also, you can eat real good in Afghanistan on a government contract. I'm talking 3-400k. You'd have to be able to get clearance, and have your CISSP though (DOD mandate).
