Not really a bad song but who thought they was gonna sell albums with this. For a guy that was basically the 50 cent of the south when it comes to hooks, I was disappointed.

BET did an Access Granted on this song. There was a big buildup for it and when it dropped, it was so underwhelming. This was also around the time when various rappers were trying to counter super mainstream stuff with a lot of very positive/super lyrical stuff, and a lot of the latter came off cheesy like this song. It may have been better if the beat wasn’t so wack. This was also when Chamillionaire chose to use profanity. It’s not a bad thing, he was just fighting a major uphill battle in that climate.

So what WAS the issue with Em singles? I thought after you sell so many you don't have to make a commercial radio single why did he have to keep doing them after the first album went crazy?

Because the first album went so crazy that they decided that they needed to stick to the formula. "The way I am" song and video was Em finding out he doesn't really have much control over the "Eminem" brand like that.

I think Eminem revealed that Interscope pushed him to keep trying to re-create "My Name Is" type hits on different albums. I could be misremembering though. @SunZoo

He summitted "The way I am" as the lead single and they said they weren't putting it out til he turned in another "My name is" so he mad the most annoying shyt he could think of lol, by Encore he was trolling.

After the formula kinda failed on Relapse with "We made you" they pushed him to do more top 40 sounding shyt.

hey love was fire

I'll give it this much:

Considering the flaming toilet dumpster fire that hip hop / rap music has become in the past 15 or so years, it's actually aged fine.

I'm still not a fan but it's way more pleasing to the ears compared to contemporary urban tracks.

Em gets caught in a pattern and doesn’t know how to break from it. The silly singles, the accent he ran into the ground on relapse, the pop duets with pink/rihanna are all examples of this

Yes Headsprung was lackluster. An LL and Timbo collaboration was supposed to be legendary like when Neptunes and LL collaborated for Love You Better. Headsprung had enough to actually be released as a single. But "Hot" was so wack Def Jam refused to release the video during the Phenomenon single run.

Wack rhymes, wack beat, wack hook, wack song, wack video. This is, hands down, LL's worst single.

This is baaad. I think this particular LL album passed me by. Headsprung was cool, I mean the beat is fire anyway.

I would say - basically any Fat Joe single like Triz, Lean Back etc. Just super corny.

Busta Rhymes is one of my favorite rappers and hes an amazing singles artists, but he has some bad ones - Make It Clap, I Love My bytch.

Jay-Z - DOA, Sunshine, Change Clothes

Nas - Hero, was Al Jarreau a single?
