What's up with right-wing authoritarians always ending up in power?

Is it just me or do authoritarian a$$holes have a very easy time getting elected? I'm talking about people like Putin, Netanyahu, Trump, Bolsonaro, Kim-Jong Un, etc.

Seems like the world would be a much better place if people would simply elect better leaders, but that often doesn't happen. And it's not just recently, even back in the day you had people like Hitler being popular. Maybe humans are just naturally tribalistic and prone to gravitate towards demagogues?

They usually come into power when the state of the country is in flux, and often they're not elected or the election was tampered with, or they're able to convince the population that "strong man" leadership is necessary.

To your point, a lot of people like to be led by demagogues, especially in times of uncertainty. Look at the illogical, unwavering support for Trump. He would've been laughed out of the election 20 years ago. He was damn near laughed out in 2015, but was consistently able to shift the narrative in his favor because the country has been in a state of uncertainty since The Great Recession.

cacs and pseudo cacs love dictators as long as their white. to them they wanna be led... so who's a man who's strong that's rules with an iron fist. a dictator but as long as he's white it's cool. can y'all just imagine if a black dictator came out the field and was talking all crazy. that would never fly because to them he's a threat. :heh: he's black... y'all notice it right. Trump can be president doing all the shyt he was doing and half the country full of cacs and other minorities voted for him. Biden been a virulent segregationist schooled by kkk leaders back in the day and then act like he was on the side of the people and still got voted into office...

What else can we say? :manny:

They tap into the hate inherent in the populace. Every country has that core group that feels it’s their country and their country alone, and outsiders are coming in and fukking up the good thing they once had. All they need is that politician that says out loud those thoughts and promise them a return to the glory days. Rinse and repeat.

People like Trump, Bolsonaro and Javier Millet (Argentina) come to power because the left wing voters get dejected with the system and stop voting.

Biden is trying to run for reelection while sponsoring a genocide. Who are leftist voters supposed to vote for in this instance?

Both candidates are basically right wing lunatics and work for their lobbyists before their voters.

Right wing populists use minorities, immigration, LGBT, and overall fear to deflect from their horrible policies which their base eats up.

"It's not the system that's broken. It's the Blacks, hispanics, Muslims, leftists, gays, etc. that are breaking our way of life."

This motivates right wing voters to go vote due to fear.

This image sums it up and you will think it's about today, but it's from 50 years ago.

Fair and debatable question. IMO, it's the strong financial and social support each of the have. They are usually a representation of something much bigger. Just IMO.

We live in uncertain times. Fascists, authoritarians etc always rise during these moments because their platforms are always about restoring order or a return to prosperity. It's the natural pendulum swing back from liberalism.

Yup. The first huge wave of fascists came out of the Great Depression. Franco, Mussolini, Hitler, even Hirohito went harder to the authoritarian colonialist shyt.

Now we have the Great Recession, and out of that you see Netanyahu, the Tea Party followed by Trump, Brexit followed by that other blond guy in the UK, Modi, Duterte, Bolsonaro, etc.

Its late stage capitalism

IMO, The middle class is dying globally while wealth accumulates at the top. Everyone else is fighting over resources they don't want to share with immigrants minorities or women who get the blame.

That's how these types come into power.

People want to be in power during fascism. They think if they jump on board early, and become police for the state, that they will benefit from the fascism. They will inherit some sense of power. Also just to fukk over blacks, immigrants and LGBTQ.

Why isn’t right wing/liberalism ever applied to black or brown leaders. Is there a historical reason for this or just another form of racism to never analyze their governments through the same lens as white leaders. Looking at the criteria for right wing, nationalism, even fascism it seems like it would apply to some African dictators but I almost never see it characterized in that way

Yes, as the most prominent examples of fascism were first started in Europe.Africa has and will continue to be governed by a very conservative government. Islam and Christianity have a current strong hold in Africa. The far right did exist in south Africa and they were pro apartheid. Now authoritarianism and totalitarianism can exist in Africa but not to the same degree as full blown fascism.Full blown facism will often result in ethnic cleansing and eugenics.
