I always hear this backward logic. This is a feature of the X1. Just because the cam is not required for core functions does not mean it should not be included. They are not forcing you to buy it. its not a extra, its a part of the whole system.
its not part of the system as a whole if you have the option to disconnect it and never use it. the Dualshock 3 is part of the PS3. you pretty much have to use it to use the PS3. the Kinect is an optional accessory they added to the retail package with an obvious price markup over their competitors. at first the Kinect was required but after getting hit with a Backlash Microsoft has now made its use optional. the obvious next step is to take it and not pack it in at all and let the price reflect that.

Still backwards logic. For the system to perform to its full potential its needs the sensor. If you want to control your AV equipment, voice commands, hand gestures, automatic live sign in, tell who has the controller etc.

none of that functionality is required by the consumer that just wants to use it as a box to play games. the company has gone as far as to advertise through official channels that you don't ever have to use the Kinect which means there are enough people out there that don't want it to have them feel the need to do that.

what i'm saying it they should have given the option not to have it at all if they're gonna go half way. for the record i'd still buy the best featured package meaning i'd get the one with Kinect but i think its bogus that it's forced on everyone.

You still are not getting the point. The kinect is built as part of the complete system. Due to various laws worldwide and the NSA fiasco it became necessary for the X1 to be able partially function without it. But make no mistake its built for the Kinect sensor. Plus having a separate sku causing fragmentation which is not good for devs.

I dont believe the $100 price point is that big of a deal. With all the features the X1 can do. I believe its worth it.

Kinect is an alright pack in but should be nowhere near a requirement.

They need a Kinect less bundle.

you don't have to use marketing talking points on me. i know why Kinect is in every box and what i'm saying is that reason is still bogus. try using an Xbox 360 without the controller and see how far you get. using an Xbox One without Kinect is as easy as unplugging it and shoving the Kinect in a drawer. if Kinect was built for and a part of the system you couldn't use it without it. clearly this is an optional accessory they packed in all systems at a markup to create a standard that all users haven it even if all users don't want it.

Kinect is to Microsoft what Blu-Ray was to Sony last generation. its the thing that they're gonna force on everyone that's gonna drive up the cost of the system and cost them marketshare. its clear that sensor is expensive to make because Sony put together a box with better specs and is able to sell it for less.
