I wouldn't call IG toxic. It like all social media appeals to our worst. shallow traits, but most people only use it to promote themselves and not for nefarious reasons.

Twitter, on the other hand, is a fukking cesspool. It gives the worst people a platform and a soapbox, agendas are pushed relentlessly, misinformation is constantly peddled with people being too lazy to fact check, clout chasers.etc. It still has it's moments of levity and positivity, but the negativity has far outweighed the good.

Twitter deadass got somebody fukked up cause some bird made a post about white vans with a certain lock being human trafficking vans even though some use those vans and particular lock for work .

I know that Twitter and Instagram are almost solely based on what YOU follow, like my Mom has an IG, and looks at museums and Vanity Fair, and posts nothing. But, I will say the average person's insta or Twitter, that I have seen is just a cesspool, Twitter was really noxious. Some stuff is funny sure, but it's like staring into an abyss of hate, lowest common denominator stuff.
