unfortunately girls is pretty much the closest thing on tv that represents my life lol.

pause

I wish How to Make it in america didnt get cancelled but it lacked a lot of substance and tried to be cooler than it should have been.

if girls didn't have controversial nudity nobody would watch that shyt but a bunch of fake feminists.

i only liked some elements of that make it in america show but if you are going to make a show about new york, you have to make it extremely real if its going to be on hbo.

Yeah that's what I think too. Saw this on wiki. Take it with a grain of salt but it's pretty much in line with what I've read before.
this is a article from when the show was first announced in May 2012

HBO has announced it is putting on the fast track a drama called TRUE DETECTIVE. It will be an eight-part drama series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. What is surprising is that it is not heading towards a test pilot but has earned straight to series status. It is being labeled a high concept cop drama that will utilize multiple perspectives and timeframes to tell its story.

The work is written by Nic Pizzolatto who wrote AMC’s “The Killing.” It tells of two detectives, Rust Cohle and Martin Hart, played by McConaughey and Harrelson respectively. Their lives collide and entwine during a seventeen-year manhunt for a serial killer in Louisiana. The story takes us to the reopened case in 2012 and flashes back to the year of the murders in 1995. All eight episodes of this stylized drama are to be directed by Cary Fukunaga of the recent ”Jane Eyre” movie.
In a twist this show is touted as an anthology series. If it is renewed, each new season will feature different characters responding to a different crime in a different locale. It will be an examination of “true detectives” and the process they go through to solve the crime. For its initial run I think Matthew & Woody will make a great combination. In fact, I’d dare to say that I wish it were a continuing series that they would both commit to as opposed to starting with new leads each season. Then again, think of all the combinations of actors they could get each year.

TRUE DETECTIVE will be McConaughey’s first foray at a TV series and Harrelson returns to the format after being involved in HBO Films’ GAME CHANGE. No premiere date has been attached to this news but, the term fast track to me indicates we may see this Fall. HBO Watch will keep you posted. Until then, we wonder, do you like the concept or the leads?

that site is pretty good for info on potential hbo shows

I don't care what anyone says, Lucky Louie was a great show that they canned after one year. Now Louis C.K. is one of the biggest comics in the country and Louie is a popular show for FX. They  big time with that one.

pamela adlon was on there too and that his friend was funny as hell. it was bootleg but i still liked it.

I love HBO. But they need to get some new dramas in the pipeline. And quick. David Simon has a couple projects percolating. One deals with the Heroine trade in Baltimore in the 1950's called The Avenue. And another that deals with the CIA called Legacy of Ashes. They need to get David Simon back on the crime tip and in the fold, since Treme is ending. Also David Milch has a new project that a pilot is being shot for. But it seems partly inspired by the Murdoch family, not sure if peeps will go for that project.

HBO needs some new drama creators to be brought in the camp. They need to stop just going for projects with big names that don't pan out.

Why are they making shows like this depressing garbage that came on today called "Getting On"?

Sick of all these wack ass shows. Now HBO want their own equivalent of nurse jackie (another irritating one from showtime).

I think i'm in the minority on here, but I really like nurse jackie. matter of fact, they had gyp rosetti on there the season before he showed up on boardwalk. and he was acting crazy on there too.

Thank God, HBO got Game of Thrones on the air. They almost passed on it, but Michael Lombardo had a last minute epiphany. HBO needs to take more risks like they used to in the drama department. Luckily Game of Thrones will be a monster for at least 3 to 4 more years. And BE is on an upswing. But they still need more.

They should've bought House of Cards.

HBO used to be the best channel on TV when it came to original movies, documentaries, TV shows, and mini series. From tho 90's all the way up to the mid 00's they had the best shyt... it seems like they took a bit of the edge out of their channel and made it a bit more classy for awards.

But man the shyt they were putting out back in the day shyts all over the stuff they're putting out now..
