this is idiotic to be honest. I prefer coke, but my moms always liked pepsi or RC cola

I'm kidding, i actually used to call it pop when i was a kid. I was born in Ohio.
But i moved to georgia in second grade. and everybody there called pop Coke. In general, not just for the specific brand.
Pepsi was just a type of Coke to them. I eventually started calling it soda to avoid confusion and it stuck.

I personally don't actually like carbonated drinks. I like to feel hydrated. Rather drink Gatorade than soda
