Love me some stew peas, rice and peas, plantain, run down, escoveitch...I would kill (not actually kill NSA monitors) for some roasted breadfruit.

That said, I did make a childhood classic a few months back, bully beef and rice* which will never be on anyone's menu

I used to love this, but lawdamercy at the price of one can. Another poor people food that's hella expensive now.

In terms of taste, I'm guessing I must have had some sort of salt deficiency back in the day, cause this was not it, at all.
:pachaha:

I recently priced a can of British corned beef, possibly to try this recipe(?), and I was like, :gucci: Its canned meat! I'm being nice even buying it. I got two full freezers, I'm just an adventurous cook. Tf? :dahell:

But to the subject of the thread, we love oxtails in this household. We buy them at Costco. My mother cooked them, I bought them from Sylvia's and the few Jamaican spots in Harlem growing up, I cook them in all forms, incl Chinese (outstanding, btw). I tried to grow Scotch bonnets just to cut down the pipeline, but I drowned the plant. :francis:

How many of yall, who aren't caribbean, grew up eating oxtail REGULARLY?
I had it before but in the last 10-15 yrs oxtail got gentrified by everybody (not just cacs)
prices soared and now people acting like oxtails was always a staple meat
I saw oxtail was 18.99 a lb in my grocery a few weeks ago, fukkin ridiculous

I had to google bully beef. Simple yet easy in a pinch.

It’s the southern equivalent to pig feet imo. I don’t get it either :yeshrug:
It’s not the equivalent to pig feet because pig feet is a whole other dish. Oxtail is leagues above pig feet.

Anyway nothing to add, but:

Fiyah bun pon dis whole bumboclaat thread. Bun out oxtail haters, bun out vegan oxtail, bun out unoo mumma whey cyant cook, bun out babylon system, bun out the internet for virality and for constantly feeding this shyt onto my timeline and pushing up the price. And a special suck yuh mumma to all the wannabe chefs that just smash two existing dishes together and call it something new. I’m looking at you thanksgiving meal stuffed into a chicken wing.

Made well, Its pretty good. Give it a shot.

Look for a local Jamaican place.
My advice to you is stay away from the ones who ALWAYS have Oxtail available.
You want the ones who are sold out at noon and start cussing you out as soon as you open the door - just my advice from experience unfortunately
Thats the spot :ohlawd:
This man knows. Lol
