so you don't believe having the internet has improved your life despite fake news?
you don't think that people should have access to the greatest accumulation of knowledge because they might run into fake news?

the internet has infinite potential for good and bad.
but the amount of basic good that comes from it is tremendous.

paying bills
applying for jobs
weather updates

i firmly believe that internet is a human right.

oh no doubt the internet has been a had a major positive impact on me personally and everyone really but as far as looking up information on specific news topics it is hard to get information without a spin or "experts" speaking on topics they aren't fully versed in (political commentary is just "push my opinion")

There are some in this thread who disagree with healthcare, so what's your rationale?

Because it's as basic as it gets as rights go, if your sick then you have the right to get treatment no matter what.

I've had to get some kind of surgery 4 separate times, I literally can't even imagine having to pay for it, it's such an alien concept to me.

Private hospitals and the like just don't make any sense imo. :yeshrug:

leave politics out of it then.

i love using google earth just to see the world.
i listen to podcasts on history, science or whatever topics i'm interested in.
my fridge stopped working once and i used the internet to fix it.
youtube has taught me to do countless things that are practical.
communicating with people i know at any time is possible because of the internet.

now tell me that it's not a human right.

I'd say safety, opportunity to work, education, free speech and religion, property, and to go and/or settle wherever you please.

access to high speed internet.
i'm not even joking.

i work with a women who cannot get internet or cell signal where she lives.
if i didn't tell her about the Las Vegas mass shooting she would not have known for days.

:snoop:
I actually agree strongly with this one, access to high speed internet in a developed country should be damn near free many areas still have comically bad access to decent speeds and are overcharged out the ass to add insult to injury.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, by my basic understanding of a right isn't that something should be free, just that it should be easily accessible and the government shouldn't be able impede or restrict your ability to use/access it.

Lets get the deplorables in here, and see what they think, some of the least empathetic people I have ever encountered.

If someone has to provide it for you, or if someone else has to pay to provide it for you... then it is not your right.

You have the right to feed yourself, you do not have the right to food.

food
water
shelter
security
liberty
education
basic health care
mobility

You can feed yourself

You can find water yourself

You can seek shelter yourself

Someone else would have to provide you with education, security and medical care so I don’t see how those can be called ‘rights’...unless you believe you are entitled to someone else’s time and services.

Basically it sounds like you want your government to provide you with everything instead of having to worry about it yourself.

That is how we end up with Big Brother.

You’re right, I am hopelessly trapped in western ideology. I’m not ashamed of that btw but it’s the truth.
