At the end of the day we're still animals. A baby bear is cute but when its old it'll tear you're head off and not think twice.Song lyrics that always resonated with me:
"A child is born with a heart of gold, the way of the world makes his heart so cold . . . "
What about life/growing old causes trauma? Is it just the imperfection of humanity? Even with the best of intentions human interactions can have very negative consequences on people.
Selfish and greedy...![]()
This is our reality...Civilization caused mankind to become a wicked version of itself

I don't think self-interest is bad, it's neutral. Bad is wanting to do harm to others, I don't think most people are into that.
I don't think there's anything wrong with looking after yourself, but it's the expense of others part that I should've emphasized. When put to the test, I think most folks would throw others under the bus for a chance to get ahead or save their own ass. Nothing good or neutral about that imo.Now we need to talk about why being driven and acting on our own self interest is bad. Who are we to tell someone else that it is bad to keeping doing what they are doing to fill their own self interest.
True... but like a leech feeding on its host, we're somewhat complicit in that we stand to benefit by participating in a corrupt system. I realize this all a matter of perspective, but I choose to accept this world as the fukked up place it is and try to carve out a little comfort for myself, and mine while trying to do as little harm to others as possible.most of the suffering is at the hands of a few people/groups with outsized power and/or influence. then of course there are stupid people who believe they're righteous and take stuff too far - ie religious zealots.
but when you get into the average village, tribe, city, town, whatever, most people are just trying to go about their lives.
True but it doesn't have to be with socialism

But I see eventual turn around as we progress as a more connected civilization.Well I think it's neutral. I also believe there is truly no objectively moral right or wrong, good or bad. What is, simply is.
For example, there are two men stranded on an island with enough rations for only one man to survive until help arrives. If man A believes he should eat and survive but man B disagrees, who is right and who is wrong? It all comes down to which man is more cunning and possesses more brute strength. The man that remains is neither right or wrong, good or bad, he simply is. Objective morality removes any inexpectations in reality in a case involving multiple actors. This is not what we observe.
Is it possible that people are mostly “good”, which allows a minority of corrupt and horrible people to rise to the top?People aren't good. If they were we wouldn't see so much of the world ran by corrupt and terrible people.
People are mostly self-interested actors like almost every other living thing in this world.
Mere Survival is ift
Edit:Didn't see @analog post something similar. He's right.
Sadly viewing people as good when they aren't is also a self-interested survival mechanism.
