My husband & I bring about 65k a year together yet after paying our bills and alil something something on the side we be at $0 :mjcry:

What's your saving method? As of last month, I set up a way where I have my HR split my check. Everything goes into my checking account - $125 that goes straight to the savings. From there, I called my bank and had them made my savings "invisible" to me so I don't see it when i log on to my online banking and don't know how much is on there until I get my monthly statement. Is this a good way, is there a better way or should I increase the $125?

Once paid, I disperse in order:

1. 25%- my long-term savings account (PAY MYSELF FIRST)
2. Put half of mortgage in short-term savings account (next check, put the other half)
3. Put half of my car note in short-term savings account (next check, put the other half)
4. 10% to joint account with wife
5. As month goes on, randomly put 5% away in long-term savings when ever I cut corners
6. The rest is mine!:youngsabo:

I guess you can say I am a pretty aggressive saver.

EDIT: Think Imma open an Ally account. Savings rate is 1% vs. my current rate of .35%. Thoughts/ recommendations, brehs?

EDIT 2: Love when March and October come (Paid 3 times in those months:ohlawd:)

I too have automatic deposits into a savings account. It's an online bank called Ally and it takes a few days to withdraw so I only use it for major emergencies. Plus the interest is better than a brick and mortar bank. Plus i also have the regular savings account with BOA. They have the keep the change thing that rounds up to the next dollar and transfers difference to savings. I try to spend as little as possible.

I have a seperate bank account I put money in and I purposely chopped the debit card in half for it. So if I REALLY need money, I'm gonna have to go inside the bank and take it out the old fashion way

Good, that plays more into having self control.

Open up a brokerage account with Charles Schwab and start putting 5-10% of every check in there. Only use that money to buy stocks.

Also, download Acorns to your phone. It rounds up every transaction you make to the nearest dollar. The change used to round up is put into a well managed index fund.
