Whedon confirms Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch for Avengers II

A rumor started a few weeks ago that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would be joining the team in the upcoming Avengers sequel. Further signs continued to point towards the characters' inclusion in the film and now writer/director Joss Whedon has confirmed the characters will appear in an interview with IGN. In the interview, he spoke about their involvement in the film.

"You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.”

We've learned exclusively at SuperheroHype that Irish actress Saoirse Ronan is the "prototype" for their version of the Scarlet Witch, but no casting has taken place.

Whedon also spoke about how the ending to Iron Man 3 (spoiler ahead!) showed a potentially changed Tony, but he's still tied to The Avengers.

“Well, I feel like in Iron Man 3, even though he said, ‘I’ve changed' -- he blew up his remote suits, but I don’t think anybody thinks he doesn’t have one anymore. The question is, if The Avengers are called, does he show up? And the answer is, ‘Yes!’”

Casting for The Avengers 2 is still coming together with many rumors flying around about potential actors being replaced. Regardless of who ultimately assembles for the sequel, Marvel's The Avengers 2 hits the big screen on May 1, 2015.

backstory on the characters

Quicksilver (Pietro Maximoff) first appears with his twin sister, the Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff), as a part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in X-Men. The siblings are mutants, with Pietro possessing superhuman speed and Wanda able to control probability. The pair are recruited by their father Magneto after he saves Wanda from a mob after she accidentally causes a house to burst into fire. Quicksilver stays with her to protect her. After several brief appearances in X-Men where the X-Men realize they are not evil, they depart when Magneto and his lackey the Toad are abducted by the cosmic entity the Stranger. They then travel back to Europe. Pietro and his sister reform and are recruited by Iron Man to join superhero team the Avengers, after they discover they are advertising for new members and want to get support for themselves.

nope he's with fox. The casual fan watching the movie will have no idea that he's their father. Maybe they may throw some kind of subliminal in there for the hardcore fans.

They got Lucky with Hulk because the first Hulk Movie with Eric Banna was so bad and Edward Norton while he is a great actor, he didn't give a memorable performance. Ruffalo had personality. I'm honestly still tight they replaced Terrance Howard. he was in the best Iron Man movie compared to the other 3. They can't replace Captian America because he will have been in 3 movies leading up to Avengers 2. I hope they don't replace Black Widow and of course they can't replace Samuel L Jackson.

The only Avenger I could live with being replaced is Hawkeye
