So it appears gold started to go up exponentially starting in 2007, right along when gold chains started to come back into prominence

But this is still a gross oversimplification because platinum has always been worth way more than gold. And still is, maybe the jewelers weren’t making that high of a premium so they convinced the industry to fall back
