I remember as a teenager it was stuff like a bandanna or scarf wrapped around your head and you stepped out. Nowadays I see blown airbags sitting on heads in schoolyards and airports. Moderation is key. I feel like it’s went to far.

I mean, if a white rapper starts selling $50 durags, I can’t be mad at him. It’s all about supply and demand. Any Breh can jump in now if they market themselves properly.

I’m less upset with the hustle and more with the audacity to act as if you “discovered” some shyt. I mean it’s a story as old as time with THEM but it never ceases to amaze me.

Just like how they discovered braids a couple years ago

Or how they discovered Ameri…you know what nvm :aicmon:

shyt. Big asses weren’t in fashion until J-Lo was elevated by P Diddy. Big lips were considered ugly until Angelia Jolie made them “acceptable.” Rock, Blues, Slang. The list goes on.

I just beat them at their own game. CACs are always gonna CAC. Black folk should really appropriate the confederate flag if we were really about it bout it. We’ve already done so with “nikka”. :yeshrug:

Lol to each his own I suppose :hubie:

But like I've said earlier, in this world, image is EVERYTHING; especially when we're already at the bottom of society and have a negative perception in people's minds across the globe

There's a reason the NOI always wore suits in public

c00n shyt:mjpls: but like you said, you already know:ehh: nobody ever said anything about white women wearing pj bottoms everywhere and them dusty ass uggs. "nobody ever said anything about white women"...

Except you, in this thread, ironically :mjlol:

"pj bottoms everywhere and them dusty ass uggs"...
Those get mocked as white-trash, Wal-Mart shopping attire, try again :comeon:

"what others are wearing"...
Image is everything, clearly you haven't matured enough to realize this yet :hubie:
Nobody has to say it. Anybody who understands respectability politics and it’s root cause of conforming to the white gaze will already know. Attacking the appearance of African American women is one of the oldest themes of white supremacy along with painting us as brutes, any self respecting black person should reject it.

Was the black restaurant owner who banned twerking in his establishment conforming to “white gaze”?

These are the kind of enablers in our community as to why we’re in such disarray.

“Stop trying to shame/control women,”

Couldn’t care less what CACs think. My parents raised me and siblings to carry ourselves and our appearance with pride. Because every time we stepped outside, we were representing the family.

When you don’t have pride within yourself or family name, you don’t care about how you conduct yourself in public.
So the issues in our community are because of the way some of us dress?

Yeah, that’s exactly what I said. Being obtuse doesn’t support what you’re saying. I clearly said my parents taught my siblings to have pride in how we carried ourselves.

What we see today is a symptom of a lack of pride collectively. How long can we keep on blaming white supremacy as if we have no autonomy?

How can we even battle white supremacy when enablers like yourself think being sloppy is acceptable and any critique is self hate?

We’re in a race war and there are those of us who don’t even know it or care, and it’s reflected in how we carry ourselves.

Ah I see, so you would rather that we continue to conform to the preconceived images that white supremacists have of us then? Conform to images that THEY created in the first place? The "mammy" (bonnets), the "brute" (durags)? It's not about ATTACKING our image, it's about PROTECTING our image. Nothing wrong with wearing these in private. However, in public, we should collectively shame this nonsense as a community.

How the hell are we "rejecting" these images as a whole when people like you confuse rebellion with leaning into said stereotypes? :childplease:
