Use the 9-5 to finance your dreams and independence. Where a lot of people go wrong is they get a nice paying job and commit to investing in a corporation instead of taking time to invest in themselves. That's were the grind comes in, staying up a bit later to work out, eat right, and work on what you want to do.

I'm in a career field where I'll always have work, and my salary will always be up there, but despite that I'm still working for my own. My own side money, independence, and my own brand.

This. Way easier said than done though I mean that's like saying at 5 pm when you get off your work day is still just beginning pretty much

I can see why people get complacent. That's how my parents are. Work, home, kids, repeat. Having an extra grind would have made them miserable

Start a blog or something. You have some strong opinions on social issues, I'm sure you would gain some traction in the black community.

If you're bold, you could even start a YouTube channel commenting on the latest controversies, sort of like what Akademiks does but with issues that effect the black community. Tariq Nasheed and those other dudes use a long video format, most people don't have the attention span to sit through a 2 hour long rant. Your niche could be 5-7 minute commentaries
