When did being a good lyricist with bars become a sin in Hip Hop?

Sadly it's the internet era where all you need is a hard ass beat and a internet connection to get popular. Why you think drill music took off so hard? Not because of the intense lyricism, but because people nowadays are always in turn up mode.

Y'all some clowns? Whats not lyrical about this song? Every damn line is a metaphor

Do you know what a metaphor is?

a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.

Never thought I'd be talking from this perspective
But I'm not really sure what else you expected
:jbhmm:

not a metaphor

When the higher-ups have all come together as a collective
With conspiracies to end my run and send me a message
40, did you get the message?
Cause I just checked my phone and I didn't get it
:dame:

Not a metaphor

so a couple lines in and no metaphors, tell me what metaphors were there that you saw?

In my era even girls were rocking with dudes like fab and jadakiss

You can tell that these young dudes are low key simps and ass kissers to thots. Talking about a 16 bar verse too hard to comprehend. Imagine someone telling Biggie that shyt not to be lyrical.

Only in mainstream rap can this shyt happen.

Exactly, you can't refute my argument even though I just disproved your wild claims like nothing.

Want an example of a metaphor?

I used to Love H.E.R. THAT Song is a metaphor

Homecoming by Ye is a metaphor.

I'm failing to see all these metaphors you're claiming are in 30 for 30. If I'm wrong, prove me wrong. If I'm right, take your L :blessed:

Just to add, I'm aware there is a couple. But not "every damn line" like you said.

The song is a metaphor comparing the rap game to sports, get it 30 for 30 as in the ESPN documentary series... :ld:

No, not every line is a metaphor but that doesn't mean the song ain't lyrical... :what:

there's like 6 sports metaphors, the entire song isn't.

peyton eli, 30 for 30, rookie season, buckets, jersey, wearing numbers

6 sports metaphors in a 4 minute song isn't enough to say "The song is a metaphor" Breh. And damn sure not enough to say "metaphors every line"

fukk yeah. All of this shyt was knocking and had chicks digging it. I was just about to say the same post. Chicks fukked with Lloyd Banks in 2004. There was nothing about having bars that by default made anyone unappealing.

What's crazy is that when 50 came out with his "debut" in 2003 and Kanye came out with his debut in 2004, one of the concerns around both was could they be lyrical enough to have as much popularity and traction and still be respected. Things have changed a lot. Because Kanye was considered not a struggle rapper when he came out, but he was considered quite a level below many of his peers he was producing for (Jay, Beans, Kweli, Luda, Scarface, etc.) People said 50 was fine because they used the "Pac wasn't a lyricist but made you feel emotion"

but he was a top 5 poet and didn't just talk about guns, money n hoes.

people only think lyricist means being witty/wordplay/metaphors.
