"fake deep" is kinda a minority and reactionary sentiment though, so i wouldn't say it's currently uncool...Kendrick and Cole are both tier 1 rappers popularity wise and they get lauded constantly for their "conscious" content...it's also a big (if not THE biggest) part of their image and marketing...

When rotation in the (strip) clubs were made paramount 8-10 years ago. I can't think of one song or artist who shyt ted on conscious music to make it uncool though. It was a culture shift

I thought Kendrick and J. Cole were two of the biggest rappers? Even that dude Maclemore makes conscious rap.
When was the last time 2 new rappers were huge and conscious rappers?
Don't try to act like most of those dudes back in the days were huge, like people like to do. Most of them were not even as big as Lacrae, who drops #1 albums compared to like #50 for KRS. I.e. there's still a bunch of indie music debuting at #50.
