When they moved from Vice to Showtime
Seems like the writing team was trying to market it to white surbanites in flover states who simply don't understand NYC culture or how it REALLY is.
Not to mention, they had more energy on the daily show and were hitting the comedic levels high with the guests.

They just aren't for that crowd. And never were.
Which is funny to hear people say that's who their audience was, cause I don't get it.

But after a while, they got stale.

Never understood the hype. They’re suppose to be like “safe hood / hipsters” for mainstream white audience right?
