I always remember dub meaning wack from back ( late 90s -2000s ) “ man he dropped a dub, turn that shyt off “ but then we would also say dub for a 20 sack. All depends on how you used it but it’s been around for some time.

Cap always meant lie, first heard it when I moved to Tampa in the late 90s. I know it’s popping now to other states but it’s always been regional to westcoast Florida section.
E-40 used Capping on In a Major Way that’s 95 i think?

never heard of/used cap as lie until the past ~3ish years. out here, growing up you were either gonna cap someone (kill) or cap on someone (clown). interesting how your region's use is what's big nationwide now
cap is bay/midwest/south shyt. its old AF. pimp C said fools was hi cappin (fakin) on ridin dirty. cleve brehs tried to create a genre of rap of nikkas just cappin (sayin fake outlandinsh shyt in raps) :mjlol:

We been using 'phat' wrong for almost 30 years now, so this is not surprising.

:manny:

I'm still tryin' to bring 'lunchin' ' back.
:flabbynsick:

I remember laughing at a white coworker saying phat. I don’t know anybody born in the 90’s and later that still uses phat like that.

Yeah but due to social media/internet things aren’t regional as it used to be.

thats kind of the problem isnt it

Dub makes perfect sense to NYers due to the proliferation of gang culture mixed with the immigrant population there (side note: funny how Dipset used to get clowned for being a "blood set in NYC"...now its like they were ahead of their time) but for some kid from Charlotte or Vegas the slang doesnt mesh as naturally, but that doesn't stop them from using it on social media/group chats like it originated there.

I think I first saw this phenomenon in real time back when Chicago Drill slang was spreading like the plague online.
