ARTISTICALLY (gotta put that in bold for the nikkas who don't take time out and read shyt from left to right), Jay-Z has NOT surpassed Nas.

Nas > Jay-Z

Illmatic
It Was Written
Stillmatic
Life Is Good

Oh yeah, Nas even had the better double album too; Street's Disciple > The Blueprint 2

Oh yeah, can't forget about The Lost Tapes too.

Just for old times sake and to remind stans, Ether > The Takeover

End of story.

To each their own, but Nas's catalogue shyts on Jay's catalog. Nas might have 1 or 2 albums around the 3 mic range, but Jay has damn near a handful. It took Jay 10yrs to finally make a good album since his last good one was American Gangster.

Agree to disagree but i don't know how you can either catalog shyts on each other theres not a big gap between these dudes

like you said agree to disagree and each their own, but I do think there is a huge gap after the top 5 MC's of all time. It's no different to me in basketball, MJ is number 1 and it's closer with the likes of majic, kareem, lebron etc, but when you get to the bottom top 10 the gap is huge to someone like Hakeem.

Brolic... Alcoholics
Wouldn't say he passed him up.

I say this a lot but I guess I'll say it again:
I was never one of those dudes that took a side becuz I was a fan of them before the beef shyt. For me its all about how I'm feeling that day. Some days I feel like Hov is 1 and some days I feels like Esco is 1.

Hell... When I'm on my Stark steez, I'll probably have him number 1.

All three are in my top 5.

Jay z has always been a better MC than nas. He is way more clever and witty. We can go bar for bar

how?

Jay flips things way more creatively than Nas ever has.

Nas has a very surface level of rapping.
They are different types of writers. Nas is descriptive, a story teller, multisyllables, more poetic, Jay is a wordplay, battle style, punchlines, puns, and entendres.

Nas has a wizard like ability when it comes to rapping. His recollections and stories he makes up our second to none. Jay has had better albums without a doubt along with Nas having a host of bad ones...yet still Nas remains unblemished. I get super frustrated when Nas picks these weird singles and bad beats though..hasn't had a single I can feel good about since " Made You Look"

Nah. "I Gave You Power" is far more than surface level. Most of Nas's best albums are far more than surface level.

In terms of creativity, Nas conceptually and lyrically pushes the envelope further than Jay.
