Doing drugs recreationally seems to be more accepted in general these days, it's not surprising people want to hear a rapper rapping about the same shyt they doing.

the irony of this thread is how some of you are saying this shyt with rappers talking about hard drugs, are ignoring all the songs about marijuana and alcohol and seem to have no problem bragging about getting drunk or getting weeded out yourselves. folks always bragging about that shyt on the forums or being proud to admit that they get drunk every weekend, black out when they get drunk or how they smoke weed about 3 times a day as if it's necessary to smoke so much damn weed. folks be showing off their weed plants and strains, making threads asking stupid questions like "how can i pass this drug test? i just smoked weed." acting like they can't stay away from weed for a month or more. wtf? what's the difference? don't get how drug users are looking down at other drug users acting like they're any better because of the drugs they're using when they all are using for the same damn reasons. it's like calling the kettle black.

I respect a lot of your post, but this one is something a square would say.

Herb is nothing like these drugs that are being mentioned. Yeah, you can smoke so much that you become lazy, but a chance of changing your sexuality or giving you a long term state of depression(molly/ecstacy), losing all of your money or having mental issues(cocaine), being constipated, and having seizures(opiates), are not going to happen with herb. I don't use herb to zone out of reality, I use it to help think deeper about reality while still being relaxed, and not get too stressed out from it. It also is good for my health, as long as I don't smoke it like crazy. Eating it or vaporizing it gives me all the benefits with no side effects.

Now with alcohol, I do agree but even then, it doesn't compare to the harder drugs. You seem to have so much sense, why would you even compare those drugs to herb?.

Dudes like Coolio, who were known crackheads and sherm users.... was making songs like this in the early 90's

This song is literally, about him smoking PCP.

y'all just weren't really listening....Eminem had vicodin pills on his album covers, and rapped about doing drugs all the time...and he's sold more albums than any rapper.

I don't think so. The lyrics are talking about how it fukks you up.

"

Why exactly did you leave out the following lines when you read all of them?

(Don’t you get too high) don’t you get too high baby!
(Turns you on) you really turn me on and on
('Cause you gotta come down) my temperature is risin’
(When the thrill is gone) no, I don’t want you to go

(White Lines) Vision dreams of passion
(Blowin’ through my mind) and all the while I think of you
(High price) a very strange reaction
(For us to unwind) the more I see, the more I do
(Something like a phenomenon) Baby!
(Tellin your body to come along, but white lines blow away)

(Ahhh) Get higher, baby
(Ahhh) Get higher, girl!
(Ahhh) Get higher, baby!
C’mon!
Raah!

And again they said they added the dont do it parts so it was radio friendly. They said it, not me.

See thats the thing, you can count the examples on one hand back in 1998, now google how many molly songs in 2012-13 and you see my point

That was to show the attraction, but after that you see where it leads. That's what most of the song was about. I didn't post that because, I wanted to show the song was not about bragging cocaine use. Even in the lyrics you posted((When the thrill is gone) no, I don’t want you to go), it was talking about some of the negatives of cocaine use, you just have to see it. I can see why they added "don't do it", some can't see what the song is about without it.

They probably added that because radio was not like it is today, so they couldn't just talk about coke without blatantly saying "Don't do it" but, listening to the lyrics you can see it wasn't condoning cocaine use.

Yeah, this is true, but the thing about the raps back then as compared to now, when rappers rhymed about this stuff, you KNEW they were low down thug, street nikkas so this wasn't really out of the norm for them, and the attraction wasn't for a lot of regular people. Now, it is like it is part of being a money maker. The way it is packaged it is like you can be a boss, have money, and be a drug head. Only a few can do this, and it even takes them under.

I don't know a hard drug user that drives foreign cars, wear high priced jeans, and live in a nice house, that doesn't come from money. If they are doing while they are living good, like Russel Simmons was when he used to go hard on coke(even did crack), either had to stop before it fukked everything up for them, or they just lost everything. This is probably why Russel is such a health nut now.

I just wish more people would talk about both the positive, and the negative effects of drug use. Back then, even when they were talking about using, they still described everything about it. Now, all I hear are the positives.

BTW, speaking of dust, and Russel Simmons. You know he met Slick Rick in the crazy house after he went crazy from smoking some dust?.

“I first met Slick Rick at a nuthouse. He’d smoked too much angel dust and had to stay in a mental ward for a few days,” Simmons wrote. “Rick Rubin at Def Jam and Lyor Cohen at Rush Management both thought we should sign him. So I went with Rick to meet him at the hospital. Ricky was completely out of it. I’d seen a lot of people in that dusty state in the street—I’d been that way myself—so I knew that after a few days he’d be fine.”

That was at the end of the song. It was glamorizing it in parts.

Talking about drugs in Hip Hop songs has been around forever. The problem is a number of people were too young to realize what some of these rappers were talking about.
