When did the mentality that Party Records is not “Real Hip Hop” start?

These dudes swear NYers are some kind of monolith like they are.

We legit don't think about these nikkas.

In fact, we're probably the only city that praises other cities over our own. I prove with this with MANY screenshots of Facebook posts.

:russ::russ::russ::russ::russ::russ:ight bruh, you won. this re-imagination of the NY is AMAZING to behold. NY rappers can barely show love to each other but somehow they praise other cities and their music scenes? :russ::russ::russ:

WHO THE fukk is talking about NY rappers? It's like you're not paying attention. Once again, I'm talking about the general population. NOT rappers.

I can literally show you posts from AVERAGE NYers talking about how much they wanna move out of NYC.

Why would I make this shyt up? I gain nothing from this discussion at all. I'm literally telling you, we thought other cities music was better.

Man nikkas down south wasn't blackballing NY rappers:mjlol: nikkas just didn't wanna hear that shyt:pachaha: and if we're being honest 2000s NY club records are some of the worst shyt ever made

What really happened is NY hated so hard on the South in the 90s that the south said fukk it then we'll stick to ourselves. The stick to ourselves shyt just happened to blow up and take over the game

And the NY nikkas that showed love to the South got love back. Dipset got LOVE down south. Jadakiss was hoping on Lil Jon records and getting love. Jay Z got love everywhere

But if you was a complaining ass, the south is ruining hip hop, boom bap is the only real hip hop, ass nikka the south said fukk it then keep that shyt in NY:manny:

After Crunk died, even the NY MCs that show the south love, still got pushed back in the backburner. When Jeezy blew up Summer of 2005, he legit made NY radio play 90% of southern shyt, and declared himself the King of NY with no pushback :dahell:

That was also the time when 16 bar verses took a nosedive in quality and everyone from Gucci Mane to Lil Wayne flooded the market with mixtapes of party shyt with beats on some Master P shyt.

If you were on :hamster: , then you remember that thread when all the east coast vets were legit :pacspit: when they said that Hip Hop quality died in Summer of 2005.

And even then southern radio still played This Is Why I'm Hot(:scust:) and We Fly High

When Atlanta blew up.

D4L, Lil Jon, Franchise Boyz, etc were making club/dance songs. NY nikkas mad they weren’t the big dawgs anymore so they started saying that. Even though rap literally started from club/party songs :dead:
I agree and i was one of those saying ATL stuff wasnt real hip hop

:mjlol: wtf are you even talking about?

We were loving all that ATL shyt in NYC.... And still do.

You anti-NY nikkas always come with some false narrative.

Maybe some bum ass washed rapper gave you this idea...
I remember an interview with Havoc from Mobb Deep around 07ish maybe where he was complaining about the south taking over. I wouldn't consider him a bum or washed at that point.

Full rep for this thread. Thank you. Party records are dismissed as unimportant by a lot of hip hop heads but like others have said it moved the genre forward and helped shape it to what it is now. Also … guess what … it’s often the transition between eras … we’re overdue for an another party phase in my opinion.

It’s transitioning towards it:

Regardless, average NYers didn't give a fukk about Havoc's opinion on anything. Maybe he was in his feelings since we certainly weren't blasting Mobb Deep at parties in 07.
