A Message of Response from Brother Antonio F. Knox, Sr., 40th Grand Basileus on
The Viral Video of Misrepresentation of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. On Social Media Outlets
Giving Honor to God, My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
For more than 100 years, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated has been a stalwart steward of the global fabric of humanity. We have worked to educate and teach manhood to each member and those aspiring to become members through our precepts of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift. We have lifted the mantle of Omega in the evolution of Civil Rights and social justice. We have lifted the voice of Omega to champion life changing issues of injustice, inequality, economic development, the right to vote, racism, men's mental health and the right for equal education. We have grown the vision of our Founders exponentially as we have laid values, platitudes, morals and deliberate steps forward to bridge our Brotherhood of great men of distinction, excellence, self-respect and servants of humanity. Omega has mandates and relentless expectations that each member will contribute to the progressive fabric of community, leaving footprints of impact, and continuously uplift our great Fraternity through committed service before the eyes of the world.
Social media is a tool to showcase our great work. Over the last 24 hours many of you have contacted the International Headquarters, the Supreme Council and myself to express your displeasure and disgust over a viral video of alleged members exhibiting behavior outside the boundaries of the precepts and mission of the great brotherhood of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. After viewing the video, I feel the same sad and hurtful emotions. Our teams are working hard on this issue and we will get to the bottom of this video and the actions noted within. Although this video captures footage from 2009, this is not the type of behavior we expect or condone from anyone so privileged to be a member of this Fraternity. Many of you are enjoying homecoming festivities on campuses where the men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. have been pillars and contributors to the success and longevity of these institutions of higher learning. This is an important part of our mantra of unity, great fellowship and friendship.
Men of Omega stay the course with impactful commitment as we draw nearer to the most important election of our lifetime. We are tirelessly working hard to help rebuild communities destroyed by Hurricane Matthew and assist members directly affected. We are communicating with local and national leaders toward remedy to remove the target from the lives of African American men who continue to be cut down senselessly by the bullets of those expected to protect, serve and secure the communities that we love and serve. Omega has a strong, courageous and progressive legacy and we will remain diligent in our quest to make the lives of others better. We are grateful for the tremendous support of our community and we sincerely express regret at the hurt that this video has caused.
The great work of Omega is never done. 'We Are One!'
Fraternally,
Brother Antonio F. Knox, Sr., 40th Grand Basileus
