y'all nikkas way off. In 1878 clarence jackson returned home from a night out in the big apple disappointed he aint get no bytches. He started thinking of ways to stand out from other men and while thinking he was rubbing a knife used to cut up apples across his head. He was startled by the sound of a horse buggy overturning causing his hand to slip and create a crisp lineup.

Your first definition is what we call a shapeup. Your second definition isn't even something we have a word for. It's already understood when you sit in the chair. as in if you just ask for a shapeup then the barber evens out whatever hair you have and then shapes up your hairline. If you ask for an actual haircut then that too is understood that they trim everything evenly and to the hair level of your request (0, 1, 2, fade, temp fade, etc). That might be it.
Line up = when u make the hairline and edges look neat and sharp
shape up = when u have hair but its cropped or trimmed to look neat
I remember reading an earlier thread on thecoli and I think the most dapped answer was Nas.
