I was born in the early 90's, 1990 to be exact and I remember growing up hearing that they didn't really bang out on the East Coast. As for down south goes I remember back in middle school this kid had moved to my City of Wichita from Miami and he told me he heard that nikkas be banging out here in Wichita and I told him some people do and he told me that they didn't really bang down in Florida. I remember this interview that Andre 3000 did sometime in the early 2000s on MTV 2 and he said they didn't really have gangs like Crips and Bloods down south, they just mostly had cliqs.I didn't really hear about nikkas from New York or down south reppin gangs until in 2004 when Jim Jones put out that song Certified Gangstas and people was calling it The blood song because Jim Jones had started claiming blood and The Game was in the song and he is a Blood.I remember being a fan of Cash money artists such as Juvenile, Li Wayne, Bg, Hot Boys, The Big Tymers and never heard Lil Wayne ever claiming he was a Blood. But all of a sudden in 2006 or 2007 he is now claiming gangs. I remember one of my friends had just got one of Lil Wayne's mix tapes and he was telling me and one our other friend's that Lil Wayne was a blood the other friend said that he didn't believe Lil Wayne was now a blood all of a sudden Lil Wayne just trying to sell CD'S.There is also an XXl magazine interview from 2007where they ask Lil Wayne if he is a blood and he pretty much denies it. But I am getting off topic. When did they did really start banging down South and the East Coast. Was it in the 2000's or was it before that. The reason I am asking is because it seems like quite a few rapper's from New York and The South are now claiming gangs but you didn't see that 10 or even 15 years ago.

nikkas were gangbanging heavy in the 60s - 80s. And I mean authentic gangs unique to New York. Movies like the Education of Sonny Carson and the famous movie The Warriors was based on the gangbanging that took place during that time. Dudes wore jackets and colors to represent their cliques. NY was a totally different place back in those days, the shyt that went down back in the 60s - 80s is why so many public schools have metal detectors cause kids were bring 22's, switchblades and ice picks on school grounds. The middle school I almost went to was notorious for the fukk shyt in the 70s and 80s.

NYC
It’s been Bloods in New York since the 80s (NHB army in Roosevelt LI under M** R**)

The homegrown E/S Ola (the New York brand of gang banging) shyt started in 1993 but didn’t touch the street until 1998-1999That’s when you see the dramatic shift toward actual gang culture. A lot of livewire nikkas that was terrorising NYC in the 80s got locked up and came home 93Gz/Don Gz/59/GKB.

And Dipset was a major part of why This NY blood shyt took off like it did

Even now tho NY is not a “gang city” and I say that as a nikka that gangbang. Money runs NY

Gangs didn't start down south...

Gangs started in Chicago and California...

The South has cliques that get money together...

Dudes in the South ain't repping blocks and throwing up gang signs like that...

It's about getting money...

There are Blood and Crip sets in the South...but it's transplants...and it's not heavy like in Cali or Chicago...

Now there are Latino gangs in the South heavy...using the highways and shyt to move drugs...

This is the god honest truth. Philly was like one of the gang banging and capitals of the United States in the 60s. Probably followed by the South Bronx and Brooklyn in the 70s. There is teven a documentary about gang banging in North Philly from like 1966 or 67 or something...

EDIT : Can't forget Chicago. Chicago was the GANG Capital of America for most of the 20th century and a lot of black people have been going back and forth from the south to Chicago for decades...
