When the producers stepped their game up post 2000. Back in the 90s, most beats were boom bap and g-funk and their range was rather limited, compared to now. When the producers stepped up their game with them adlibs and super-catchy hooks, it was :rip: to good rappers that can't pick catchy beats.

I clearly remember there being a time when wack rappers couldn't get on.

but now it seems like everything has reversed and its the other way around now

Someone school me

:ohhh:

It's disgusting what happened, catchy hooks have replaced skill and anybody can get on now. And if you say anything your called a hater. Simplicity has become the norm which caused the decline of quality hip hop.

That's everywhere. Look at the reality TV after Survivor blew up in 2000. Look at cartoons today that don't hold a lick to the 90s. Look at schools with their dumbed down standards.

Good news is that with Obama in office, people are trying to raise standards of entertainment again.

I think that the production from the 90's was superior and complex, even though it was more sample based, but the beats lent themselves to someone to have skill to ride them lyrically. Today's production is pretty simple and a lot of it sounds the same. The south's rise and their laid back flows I think caused people to be lazy w/ things.

The 90s, you have to be a skilled producer to match the MC's style of rapping. Beats sound way dimmer, more smooth jazz influenced. After the soul sample in the early 00s with old Kanye and Just Blaze, that is when production went up in quality. They were faster paced and more versatile in sound, as well as more vibrant and catchy.

Then the south came in. You know the rest.

:salute: I see what you're saying now. Shame too, but I think that's why we see such a generation gap going on right now.
