When Did You First Hear About Lebron James?

For those of us old enough to remember the NBA before him…

Summer of 02 I had a copy of a Scholastic magazine and they had like a page or so devoted to noteworthy people. They mentioned something about some high school player that was so good he could’ve went to The NBA at the age of 15 or 16. If my memory serves me correct this was before ESPN started broadcasting those St Vincent games in the fall. It sounded like craziest shyt you’d ever hear in life but for some reason I just rolled with it

Then I finally saw him play

Even before the major national push. He almost felt like a rumor. Some kid from the hood Ohio who was a middle schooller who was already 6ft and something like 175 lbs. It was being talked about on the internet even then. Like Bigfoot

i think I first heard about him in maybe 00,

then his Senior Year, when they was touring he actually came to my college city and played against a team from my home city (that was actually my HS Rival school) in RJR.

Outside of the hype for Bron locally his matchup was a guy that was going to UNC and was one of the top players in the State so people wanted to see that

RJR was and has always been a top team at the time in the region but needless to say SV washed them.

Glad you posted this. it’s be bugging me out on SM when I read Bron hate and some of it be “I hate Lebron cuz he named himself THE CHOSEN ONE”

it’s like stupid idiot, he never said that….. it was a Magazine cover and editor that did that. It’s call “Head Line Copy” in the journalistic world

I think I first heard people talk about a him after the ABCD Camp in 2001 when he played Lenny Cooke. Didn't really start following until the Sports Illustrated cover...
