Sometime around 99-2000 when DBZ was taking over.
Saw a MUGEN compilation that had all the characters.
Had to have it. Learned the sprites were from actual games. Went diggin and found a download for ZSNES to play Hyper Dimension.
The site then made me realized it can play any SNES game.
The only other download on that website was Chrono Trigger, with a description suggesting visitors to download it as it's likely the best RPG you've ever played.
Rest was history.
