With 7 years of lurking and the only thing I could was read threads and not post in them.

I read the coli for the entertainment specially threads about H_O_L_T alt ego and its army of simps and the posters that hated that mfer

and the poster that didn't have a job was it Reggie i think:mjlol:

2016 went mostly MAGA vs Liberal vs bothsiders

Now outside looking in I always thought actual Maga posters where cacs or off brand cacs (c00ns) which probaly is the case.

Liberal posters (I assumed) being mostly non fba black posters and you can see with their hate for Tariq when he started going in on tethers

and the bothsiders being mostly fba

but liberal posters always painted bothsider posters as maga so you had very different "street" beefs going on at that time.

cac posters always showed they true colors just needed a certain type of issue to be posted (when you know you know) hard trying to post black when your whitness can't help it self but leak out.

I know brehs simped for some cac women poster on here with her Hebrew Israelite gimmick :pachaha:

you get the random LSA adjacent post

BM with WW
BW with WM

always bring out feelings that BM and BW that are bitter towards each other have for each other....

and the batty boy a troll posting the various name changes from @Coi Leray

oh and the indian Napoleon....

I say its pretty much the same just tone down a little.

Many people found boards like this to PM and get music.

Rep would be dished and threads would be lit when somebody would leak the music, folks would share it and listen to it together like big ass listening parties.

You'd get a sense of still being in touch because you'd know what the hyped releases are and where to find it, causing more discussion. It was pirating, but low key making more hype and camaraderie.

Now streaming platforms make so much music so easily accessible, people going to listen to shyt on their own time and that honestly means less poppin/deep discussions and more repetitive threads would be made to pass time.

I'd also go as far to say this is what has made the hype for music and current less exciting in general as well (in addition to being very repetitive and not doing anything new).
yea, streaming def ruined music discussion. my first foray onto the internet in the AOL was looking up bone thugs lyrics and conspiracies about 2-pac still being alive, got on two hip hop message boards a few years later - SOHH and back when XXL had a forum, that shyt was legit. that spirit is gone

A lot of these dudes are getting older now. They’re either 40+ or approaching it, and they haven’t had the life they thought they would have. In some instances, that means not getting the women they thought they would, or being as accomplished as they thought they’d be. In other cases, brehs failed to become the man they’d thought they’d be in some distinct sense (i.e., this does not mean just monetarily), so they use this place as a electronic mancave where they can lash out—and wail against anything they perceive as having impeded them from reaching those aforementioned ends: women, single mothers, accomplished women, “square” men, immigrants, “wokeness,” education, homosexuality, etc. It’s nebulous but simultaneously crystallizing.

Thus, you’re often dealing with a super jaded lot. There are dudes that post on this board, that have a little following or whatever on here, that are clearly broken men. The fact that they say things that resonate with a lot of men on here is indicative of what I’m saying. In most cases, I feel bad for them.

Overall, I think thecoli is an entertaining place, but TLR is like Shawshank or some shyt. You have to have some hope that remains deep inside of you to be reading this board everyday and not get lockeroom-cized. 😂

Its one dusty fakkit on here who said I was exploiting my workforce even as I pay them $2 above the average wage smh

Brehs on here now ain’t on that shyt simp shyt like the 2012-2017 era so we now gotta make a narrative that the coli is “bitter” :mjlol:

Theres really no difference in simping for attention, and antagonizing female posters for attention:mjlol:?

And antagonizing them all because they might be somebody named **** from 10 years ago is even more ridiculoye. By the same logic who cares if they "****" unless you plan on sending dikk picks? **** still haunting 40 year old men since childhood like "It" the clown:wow:#Legacy

Edit-Guess I shouldve said Candyman, just realized you cant even type the name H0olt

Its always funny when you browse through these old threads, and you see old screen names and what they go by now.
I was lurking the coli during this time, it was the pinnacle of morning comedy.

Men on here run females off. Place really isn't healthy for women, either. The 'hold women accountable' crew stays on the insanity.

ngl, it kinda gives me a boost knowing i am not that miserable. like if i have a bad day or bad feeling, i just log in here and see the same people posting nothing but negativity (both men and women i might add) and it keeps it in perspective that it @CouldntBeMeTho and i just be like "happy tuesday yall" "this music is 🔥 " "she looks amazing" lol

also somewhat empowering knowing how a lot of dudes live for bytches on one hand and get triggered so easily at the same time. i mean, i kinda knew that before but seeing it every... single...day.... it never fails to be mindblowing :mindblown:

Yeah the process of either physically going to the store or searching for and getting the bootleg usually meant for all the extra effort, you're going to listen to the music you just acquired. People that don't got the album yet will visit the threads looking for a link and basically step right into the discussion. The cats who used to hook up the releases were legendary.

Additionally, people from other sites would get word that ___.com forums got the leak and traffic would hit the boards heavy. Talking thousands of people flooding into a discussion thread looking for links over a single night.

Now people take it for granted because the album gets dropped right onto the streaming platform and immediately available. Only the major releases will get a buzz and even then not everyone is going to be able to make the discussion when a release occurs at midnight EST. It also makes new music easier to miss as that backlog grows.

All this makes for less discussion, less engagement and less connection for everyone. Life on message boards gets less interesting and people find other things to talk about to try and replace that feeling. Again, less traffic to message boards as well because they don't have anything exclusive (like an early bootleg).

Streaming hitting full steam fell right inline with "wacko, cringe politics" so that created a crazy storm where political/world discussions filled some of the void for album release discussions.

@IIVI

really interesting, and likely entirely accurate analysis. I go back too far on these sites, and when a major release was out, the threads and reviews were really fun. People were giving like track by track breakdowns, and full The Source style reviews, myself included, obviously, about like a Jadakiss album, some dude back on SOHH like reviewed each track with multiple paragraphs. And there would be like a dozen of those.

You can look to social media's creep and the way it changed discourse, *shorter, harsher, more for clicks and likes, because responses speaking strictly musically are much more for laughs, or dismissive, "trash", 'came and went", or a meme, Stan Wars, it's all become pretty intellectually deadening. But, so has everything else online.

People would love or hate the album, but there was less ambivalence about it's existence, or it's importance. In some ways online culture always had "stan wars" and cliques and trolls or whatever, but it's def. greatly expanded those parts, and lessened everything else.

Read The Chaos Machine for a look at Facebook's influence on all of this.

Hopefully, this doesn't make me sound like a delusional old men, when I am not very old, but I remember vividly like deep dissections of song concepts and production themes, around albums like Kiss's debut, or Beanie Sigel's second album. shyt The Blueprint, that was monumental. And there was always some in group/out group, or comedic defending of a bad album, or bad song, but there was like intense discussion around the music itself.

I blame Megan Thee Stallion:mjlol::troll:

But frfr I got answers but I just don’t feel like making a long post. Just ignore the bitter ones and only respond to the good ones.
